Scripture Reading: Mt. 22:15-21
…They handed him a denarius and he said, ‘Whose head is
this? Whose name?’ ‘Caesar’, they replied. He then
said to them, ‘Very well, give back to Caesar what
belongs to Caesar – and to God what belongs to God’.
Meditation: Try to answer as many questions as possible
1.
Who were trying to trap Jesus in what he said?
Were they successful? How did Jesus respond to their
questions? Was he in control of the whole situation
from the very beginning? What does this tell you about
the person and character of Jesus?
2.
Who was Caesar? Why is his image on the coin?
What does this symbolize? How can you identify the
things that belong to Caesar?
3.
What about God – how can you identify the things
that belong to God? Where can we find God’s image in
this world? How can we give back to God what belongs to
God?
By Heart: Reflect on this in light of your daily life
situation
Though we are not of this world, but we live in this
world. Consequently, we live and share our lives with
other people around us and are bound by a common
responsibility for peace, justice and equality to uphold
the dignity and right of every person.
-
Are we aware of our responsibility as Christians
living in a political, economic and social world? What
are the ways where we can be the voice of God in today’s
world of politics and business? Do you think this even
possible?
Though we live in this world, we are not of this world.
Not only are we made in this image and likeness of God,
but as baptized disciples of Jesus we bear the indelible
mark that we belong to God.
-
Are we aware that we belong to God? What do we
owe God? What can we do to increase the image and
likeness of God in our lives?
Intercession:
1.
For all who govern our nation, that they might be
courageous leaders of strong morals and integrity for
the welfare of the people
2.
For all victims of persecution because of their
faith, that they might be strengthened by the Spirit to
imitate Christ and persevere until the end
3.
For the sick and suffering in our families, that
made in the image and likeness of God, they might
discover the love and mercy of God
4.
For all young people, that they might offer their
lives unselfishly in the service of God in the people
around them
